The Truth – What Makes a Career
Career development is an area with too many stories and too many lies.
Udo Neumann
Education is not a guarantee for a career.
We all hear that education and skills are essential – don’t get me wrong, they are crucial!
For many young adults and their parents, a college degree is the most essential achievement, so crucial that some of us take student loans and pay them back for years. This is all for getting a well-paid job and starting a future career.
The truth is that education is not a guarantee for a career. Whoever tells you that you need a college or a master’s and your career is magically happening is not telling the truth. There is a big difference between getting a job and doing a job and planning and making a career.
Whatever education you achieve, or skills you learn will help you get a job and define your career starting point. Education and skills are valuable and a door opener to a potential career, but they do not guarantee a career.
A career is much more than education or learning new skills. Much more than doing a job and waiting for a promotion, as this is the wrong approach and a bad decision. A career has nothing to do with magic, and a promotion is rewarded not because you are lucky but because you have something valuable your boss or company wants to use.
The truth about a career is…
The truth about a career is that it is like a game. There are game rules you need to understand, and more importantly, you need to be innovative and create a plan for how you want to approach and win your career game. The first achievement or milestone in this career game is the first promotion.
You want to win this milestone, as do all the other players in the Game. The game rules contain a set of company values you need to understand and follow; otherwise, you are back to start, or, worse, you are out of the Game and disqualified.
Now we know there are some rules we need to follow, and on top of that, there are some game strategies we need to understand and learn, and I will teach you these step by step in this Career Planning Master Class. If you know these strategies and execute them well to be prepared in the needed moment, you win and level up in the career game, which means you will be promoted.
Comparing a career with a game sounds easy, and you are right. But this Game is the most difficult one you will ever play, and it is extremely tough to master. That is the reason why not everybody makes a career, and only some finish the Game on top. Some players don’t know the game strategies, and they try and work harder and maybe achieve the first or the second milestone, one or two promotions, but after that, they get stuck and passed by other players.
Please do not get stuck in your career game, as this often makes people stop playing and accept that their career is over, which is a lost opportunity.
This Career Planning Master Class will teach you various game strategies to help you navigate different career situations. Whether you’re a new player in the Game and exploring your first job, a new manager in the establishment stage, or a seasoned director in the mid-career stage, this class has something for you.
As mentioned, you are accountable for your career and nobody else. Learn how to play the career game, train hard, play smart, and do not give up, and you will win in this Game like I and others I coached did, too. I call it Invest in Yourself, and I liked this slogan so much that I trademarked it.
Now it’s your turn to INVEST IN YOURSELF™.
See you inside
